Field Safety Training
The PARTNERS project (http://ecosystems.mbl.edu/partners) sampled from the six largest arctic rivers in 2003 and 2004; the Lena, Kolyma, Yenisey, and Ob' rivers in Russia; the Mackenzie in Canada and the Yukon in Alaska. Here, Russian and American researchers (scientists, students and a teacher) gather samples from the Lena as the weather turns snowy. Photo by Max Holmes.
Researchers take a risky hike down the gangway from their sampling boat on the Lena River. They spent two weeks on this ship in August 2003, cruising from Yakutsk to Kyusyur and back. Photo by Max Holmes.
Eager research assistants can turn up in unusual places. Anya Suslova, daughter of the captain of the sampling ship on the Lena River, proved to be a great help to the research team. Photo by Max Holmes.
